June 19: Our Lady of Monte Senario

The cradle of the order of the Servants of Mary began at Monte Senario in the year 1233 in the city of Florence, Italy, by a group of Hermits now known as the Seven Holy Founders. They were sons from different wealthy families, and they retired from the world for a life of prayer and devotion to the praises of Mary.

«Leaving La Camarzia, a suburb of Florence, the seven went to Monte Senario in the region of Tuscany. Uncertain of what way of life to follow, they turned to Our Lady in prayer and supplication, and she appeared to them on the Feast of the Assumption in the year 1240.

«The Blessed Virgin, Our Lady of Monte Senario, presented the Seven Holy Founders with the habit of their new order, and an angel stood nearby bearing a scroll that was marked, “Servants of Mary.” He read to the Seven Holy Founders the following words: "You will found a new order, and you will be my witnesses throughout the world. This is your name: Servants of Mary. This is your rule: that of Saint Augustine. And here is your distinctive sign: the black scapular, in memory of my sufferings."

«From that day in 1240, the seven were known as the Servants of Mary, the Order of Servants of Mary, or the Servites. Members of the order take solemn vows to especially honor the Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The sorrows are, in order, the prophecy of Simeon, the flight into Egypt, the loss of the Holy Child at Jerusalem, meeting Jesus on his way to Calvary, standing at the foot of the Cross, Jesus taken down from the Cross, and the burial of Christ.

«According to an ancient document called the "Legenda de Origin ordini," "Our Lady wanted to begin her Order with seven men to show everyone, with absolute clarity, that she wanted to adorn her Order, endowing it with the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit." The Order gained official recognition in 1249, but was not officially approved until Pope Benedict IX issued a Bull in 1304. Their church on Monte Senario, rebuilt in 1700, is a favorite resort of pilgrims from Florence and further places. Mary, here as Our Lady of Monte Senario, as well as elsewhere, proves herself the miraculous Mother of God.

«The names of the Seven Holy Founders are Saints Alexis Falconieri, Bartholomew of the Amidei, Benedict of the Antella,  Buonfiglio Monaldi, Gerardine Sostegni,  Hugh of the Lippi-Uguccioni, and John Buonagiunta Monetti.»

• St Juliana Falconieri, at Florence,  virgin, foundress of the Sisters of the Order of the Servants of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Servite Sisters of Mary), who was placed among the holy virgins by the Sovereign Pontiff, Clement XII.

• The Holy Martyrs of Arezzo in Tuscany Saints Gaudentius, bishop, Culmatius,  deacon, and 53 Companions, who were lynched by pagans, during the reign of Valentinian.

• The Holy Martyrs of Milan Saints Gervasius and Protasius, brothers, both their parents Saints Vitalius and Valeria, too are Martyrs. Their relics are known to exorcise from Demonic possession. 

• The Holy Martyrs of Russia of a Camaldolese missionary party, St Bruno Boniface, Saxon German, a disciple of St Romuald, and 18 Companions, June 19, 1009. St Bruno Boniface is also celebrated Oct 15, a translation of his relics.

• St Romuald, at Ravenna, anchoret, founder of the monks of Camaldoli, who restored and greatly extended monastic discipline, which was much relaxed in Italy. He is also commemorated on February 7.

• St Ursicinus, Martyr at Ravenna, when seeing the instruments of torture, he hesitated, St Vitalius, father of Saints Gervasius and Protasius, encouraged him, for which Vitalius too was seized and Martyred. 

• St Zosimus, Martyr at Sozopolis under Traianus (Trajan).

• Adoption of the Nicene Creed by the Holy Ecumenical Council of Nicaea. 

• The Holy Martyrs of Bergamo St Lupus, dux  and his wife St Adelaide, parents of St Gratia, by whom they were converted, Martyrs, probably under Diocletian. Some object that Adelaide being a Teutonic name, could not have been of the time of Diocletian, but of the Lombardic time. However, Germans, including the Franks, were well integrated into Roman military and social life long before Diocletian.

• King St Abgar V, also called Ukkāmā, meaning "the Black" in Syriac and other dialects of Aramaic, King of the Armenian Kingdom of Osroene at Edessa.

• St Candida Leonte of Milazzo in Sicily, Italy, no information.

• St Childomarca or Hildemarca, abbess of Fecamp in France.

• St Coelain of Doire Choelaine, Ireland. 

• St Colman of Druim Lias, now Drumlease, in County Leitrim, Ireland. 

• St Hildegrim or Hildegrin, younger brother of St Ludger of Utrecht with whom he collaborated to evangelize the Saxons. Bishop of Chalons-sur-Marne, France in 802. In later life he retired to live as a Benedictine monk at Werden Abbey in Germany, where he was later elected its abbot.

• St Innocentus, bishop of Le Mans in France. 

• St Lambert, a farmer, martyred at Saragossa by the Muslim Infidels occupying Spain, Cephalophore.

• St Michaelina or Michelle Metelli Malatesta of Pesaro, Stigmatist, visionary. 

• St Nazarius, bishop of Koper in modern Slovenia. 

• St Odoardus, bishop of Cambrai. 

• St Rasso or Ratho of Andechs. 

• St Thomas Woodhouse, martyred by the Apostates, Satanists, Traitors and Infidels of England for refusing to accept "Queen Elizabeth I" as "Pope of England."
