In 1786 AD, the Impious Emperor Joseph II banned pilgrimages to the chapel, it was stripped bare and closed. In 1790, his successor, Emperor Leopold rescinded the Josephine Laws, and restored the pilgrimage and chapel. In 1915 AD the Sanctuary found itself on the battle lines of World War I. On September 16, a bomb thrown at the church caused a fire, which destroyed it. On the orders of the parish priest, Fr Pius, the statue was brought to safety downstream by the keeper of the church, John Kravina. From the day of Pentecost to the month of July it was kept in the Rectory of Camporosso. Later she was taken to Villach, Klagenfurt and Maribor, to the Basilica of Our Lady of Grace. In September 1920 AD it was taken to the Church of the Pilgrims of the Holy Cross in Dravograd. Finally, in August of the following year, she was finally able to return to Camporosso.
