✓June 30, 1347 Our Lady of Calais, France.
«For a whole year the town of Calais in France was besieged by the English, who had lost many troops during the siege. Starvation finally forced the French to consider giving up, but the English King, Edward III, would not accept their surrender unless six citizens of Calais came before him bare-headed, bare-footed, dressed in rough shirts, and each with a halter about his neck. He demanded the keys of Calais, and that these men accept his pleasure, however severe, before the rest of the citizens would receive any mercy. The entire population prayed to Our Lady of Calais, which had been damaged during the war. Those who could do so knelt at her shrine. This shrine had been built by the English while they had possessed that city, of which they had been masters for two hundred and ten years. No one wanted to give his life in such a manner. Finally a nobleman stepped forward and offered his head as a ransom to the English king so that the city of Calais should be spared. Five others then volunteered, all dressed as the king had demanded. When they stood before the irate king he angrily reminded them of the losses he had suffered through their stubbornness; then he ordered the six citizens to be beheaded. The king's bravest and noblest warriors pleaded with him to spare the men, but in vain. Then Queen Philippa arose from her seat beside the king, and kneeling before him with tears streaming down her cheeks, pleaded: "My lord and husband, I have crossed the sea through many dangers to be with you. Let me now pray you to have pity on these six prisoners." After a few minutes of deep thought the king declared: "Madam, I wish you had been elsewhere this day. I cannot deny the boon you ask me. Take these men and dispose of them as you will." The gracious queen gave the six hostages better clothing, each a certain amount of money, and had them safely brought back through the lines and set at liberty to return home. The king, humiliated at his queen's mercy, spared the town. Queen Philippa was a figure of Our Lady, interceding for these men and obtaining mercy for them just as the Blessed Virgin Mary, Gate of Heaven, will do for us if we make her our advocate before God. From that time on Our Lady of Calais was ever more recognized as the merciful Mother of Calais. A magnificent chapel was added to the shrine of Our Lady of Calais in the year 1631 by James de Bolloye, the parish priest (Cure) of Calais.»

Our Lady of the Rose of Makati

«Today, in Makati, in the neighborhood of Manila in the Philippines, is celebrated the "Virgin of the Rose," or "La Virgen de la Rosa" of San Pedro de Macati, now called Makati, she is also called the "Sovereign Empress" or "Soberana Emperatriz" of Makati. St John Cardinal Newman taught, "Mary is the most beautiful flower ever seen in the spiritual world. It is by the power of God's grace that from this barren and desolate earth there ever sprung up at all flowers of holiness and glory; and Mary is the Queen of them all. She is the Queen of spiritual flowers; and therefore, is called the Rose, for the rose is called of all flowers the most beautiful. But, moreover, she is the Mystical or Hidden Rose, for mystical means hidden." The heart of Makati is the Barangay of Poblacion, also called Sampiro, built around the oldest church of the city, the Church of Saints Peter and Paul, which houses the city's longstanding Patroness, the miraculous image, "La Virgen de la Rosa." The miraculous image of Virgen de la Rosa was a de vestir image of the Blessed Virgin Mary holding the Child Jesus in one arm while holding a rose in another. It is based on the Apparition and Miracle of Our Lady at Lucca in Italy, where the Virgin appeared to a deaf mute shepherd holding three roses in her arms and when he announced the news of the apparition, he was cured and was able to speak. The image of the Virgin of the Rose was brought to the Philippines from Mexico by Fr Juan Delgado, August 10, 1718, by the Manila-Acapulco Galleon Trade on the galleon "Sacra Familia." One of the most unique feature of the image is that there is (was) a reliquary located in the chest of the image, encasing a strand of hair of the Blessed Virgin Mary while she was still on earth. This fact is supported by Jesuit historian Fr Pedro Murillo in his "Historia de la Provincia de Filipinas de la Compania de Jesus": "Your most holy image of the Nuestra Señora de la Rosa has on her breast a most precious treasure, greater than those which Tharsis had in is opulence, or Ophir with hits most valuable metals can offer. This is the strand of hair of her most holy head, whose authenticity I read with great admiration. In the vast extent of the Indies that I know of, there exists no similar reliquary." Unfortunately, during the "Philippine Revolution" staged by the Maranos-Freemason traitors and Zog Quislings, the reliquary together with the ivory hands and head of the image were stolen and their whereabouts are still unknown up to the present. An empty oval cavity in the breast remains where the reliquary had been placed while the hand and head have been replaced with wooden replicas. The Church of Saints Peter and Paul was built by the Jesuits in 1620 on top of a hill called Buenavista ("Good view" in Spanish) overlooking the Pasig River and round this hill sprang the original village, now the Barangay of Poblacion. The Church was placed by the Jesuits under the patronage of Saints Peter and Paul. Thus, Makati was also known as San Pedro de Macati or "Sampiro" which referred to both the church and to the town that sprang up around it. Despite the loss of the relic and the original parts of the image and the challenge to keep up with the city’s rapid advancement, the devotion to "La Virgen de la Rosa" remains a living heritage, especially with the staging of the annual "Baile de los Arcos," (Spanish, translated as the "Dance of the Arches"), the term coined by Don Alejandro Roces, during her feast day every June 30. The "Baile" is a ritual of song and dance performed by nine virgins in honor of Makati's patrons, Saints Peter and Paul, and the Virgen de la Rosa. For generations, the practice has been upheld by families who made a vow to keep it alive. It is also believed that it is an act of reparation for the sins that Makati committed for it was also at that time infamously known as "a red light district" hence only virgins must perform the "Baile."»
